don RODRIGO Díaz de Vivar (Vivar near Burgos [1043]-Valencia [10] Jul 1099, bur monastery of San Pedro de Cardeña). The Historia Roderici names Rodrigo Díaz el Campeador as son of "Diego Laínez…[and] the daughter of Rodrigo Álvarez"[559]. The "Corónicas" Navarras name "Rodric Diaç" as the son of "Díac Layniç" and his wife "fija de Roy Díaz Álvariz d'Esturias", specifying that "el rey don Sancho de Castieylla" raised him after his father died[560]. Known as "El Cid Campeador". He was brought up in the household of Sancho, future Sancho II King of Castle, and fought with the prince at the battle of Graus 8 May 1063[561]. Alférez of Sancho II King of Castile 1066[562]. Lord and independent ruler of Valencia 1094-1099. Dozy highlights a passage, written by Ibn-Bassâm in 1109, which records that "un chien de Galice appelé Rodrigue et surnommé le Campéador" captured Valencia in "488"[563]. The "Corónicas" Navarras record that "meo Çid" died in Valencia in May 1132 and was buried "a Sanct Per de Cardeyna, prob de Burgos"[564]. The Chronicon Burgense records the death in 1099 of "Rodericus Campidoctor"[565]. m (1074) doña JIMENA Díaz, daughter of conde DIEGO Fernández de Oviedo & his second wife doña Cristina Fernández (-1106). The "Corónicas" Navarras record that "este meo Çid" married "dona Xemena, nieta del rey don Alfonsso, filla del conte don Diago de Asturias"[566]. "Rodric Diaz et uxor mea Scemena" donated property to the abbey of Silos by charter dated 12 May 1076[567]. She attempted to retain control of Valencia after her husband's death but finally evacuated the city in [Apr/May] 1102. The Anales Toledanos record the death in 1106 of "Dona Ximena su muger [del Cid]"[568]. Rodrigo & his wife had three children
