GERHARD von Wassenberg, son of DIETRICH "Flamens" Graf [von Wassenberg] & his wife --- (-before 9 Apr 1138). The Chronicon Huberti names "Gerardus et Gozwinus filius eius [=Theodericum]" in 1082[184]. Graf von Wassenberg. The Gesta Abbatum Trudonensium records that "Gerardum…de castello…Guassenberge et Gozwinum avunculum eius de castello…Heinesberge" introduced abbot Luipo into the abbey of Saint-Trond in 1085[185]. "Heinricus…Romanorum imperator augustus" confirmed a donation of property "in Traiecto quam comes Gerardus de Wassenbergen invaserat" to St Servatius, Maastricht by charter dated 1087[186]. Graaf van Gelderland 1096. "…Gerhardus comes de Gelleren et filius eius Gerhardus…" witnessed the charter dated 1117 under which Friedrich Archbishop of Köln donated property to Meregelpe[187]. His supposed marriage with "Clémence de Poitou, widow of Konrad I Comte de Luxembourg"[188] is based on a falsified document purporting to be the foundation act for the monastery of Schiffenberg in 1129[189].
m ---. The name and origin of the wife of Gerhard is not known. However, a clue may be provided by the Liber de Restauratione Sancti Martini Tornacensis which names "Hiolendem, filiam Gerardi Babinbergensis comitis" (her daughter) and specifies that she was "neptem Clementia Flandrensis comitissa"[190]. The relationship between Yolande and Ctss Clémence has not been established, but this text suggests that Yolande's mother may have been --- de Bourgogne, daughter of Guillaume II "le Grand" Comte de Bourgogne & his wife Etiennette ---, and therefore the sister of Clémence. This is far from certain. Another possibility is that "neptem" should be interpreted more broadly, and that Graf Gerhard's wife was a relative of Etiennette, wife of Guillaume Comte de Bourgogne, whose origin is not known.
