The Annales Complutense record the death in 1067 of "Regina Sancia"[388]. Under the division of territories organised by his father, he received Castile, succeeding in 1035 as FERNANDO I "el Magno" King of Castile. He proclaimed himself FERNANDO I King of León after defeating his brother-in-law Vermudo III King of León at Tamarón 4 Sep 1037.
